Why I Ditched My Big Mower (And Never Looked Back)

I used to think a bigger mower would make my life easier.

I figured I would get through more jobs, make more money, and get to sit down all day while I worked.

Faster jobs. Cleaner cuts. Less time on each lawn.

And for a while, that felt true.

But when I finally bought one, I realized something. Big mowers come with big problems.

More moving parts mean more to break down.
Belts that can snap.
Timed blades that work great until something happens, they go out of sync, and everything implodes.

It has happened to me more than once.

And every time, it cost a few hundred dollars and a wasted afternoon at the workshop.

Then there was my choice of lawns. I did residential work with a mix of large, small, and medium lawns.
Sometimes getting a big mower on the job, through the gates, and around tight spots was a bit of a mission.

Sure, the cut looked great.
But the stress? Through the roof.

So I made a change.
I sold the trailers, bought a few vans, and started focusing on small lawns with small mowers.

It is amazing how much money there is in these little jobs.

These days, I stick with small mowers on small lawns.
No timed blades.
No fancy belt systems.
Fewer things to go wrong and fewer breakdowns to ruin my day.

Funny thing is, my income has not changed.
My costs are lower.
And my stress? Way lower.

This may not be true for everyone.
But for me, sometimes simpler really is better.

Until next time, get out there, mow lawns and have fun

So, I made a few smart shifts to protect my bottom line: ✅ Optimized my routes using free tools like RouteXL and Google Maps → Less driving. Less gas wasted. ✅ Maintained my equipment with clean air filters, sharp blades, and proper...

You don’t need to spend tens of thousands just to get started. Top-end domestic mowers will do 90% of what you need without the...
