It was all going so well.... The other day, I had a tyre that had a slow leak. I've been pumping it up when I get the chance. Its amazing, the amount of gas stations that have broken air pumps, but that's another story. Anyway, it was time to get the tyre fixed. I wasn't going to take it to our usual guy. The last time they mucked up and I failed the WOF "warrant or fitness" They had to rechange a tyre. Long story short, I was looking for someone new. There is a local place I have been looking at called "world of tyres" I thought it looked good, so I went there. When I arrived, they had a bay available and ready to go. That was a nice start. The tyre guy asked me if I wanted a new tyre of just fix the old one. I asked if the tyre would pass a WOF He said that it was worn but it would pass. So I asked him to just fix the tyre. I'm not going to spend money when I don't have to. While the work was being done, I went into the waiting room. It was very nice. I made myself a freshly ground cup of coffee with their wonderful machine. And settled down in a cosy seat in front of the fire. After a while, they came and got me and said that my van was ready. Great stuff. I went to pay the bill. I was expecting a bill of about $25 but they charged me $50. That's a bit pricy, but ok, as I did not ask for a quote, so it is what it is. Then I went to leave. Another great thing was that this place was a drive-through, so I could just drive straight out. Brilliant On the way to the van, I saw the guy who repaired the tire and said thanks. He laughed and replied Sure thing, I will see you in two weeks. What the...... I thought he said the tyre was okay, but now he's telling me I just wasted $50 on a tyre that won't pass a WOF. I guess time will tell with that one. One thing that I do know is I won't be going back. I feel sorry for the guy that owns the place. He probably spends a ton of money to get the customer in. Then spends all that time getting the customer experience right Just to have some thoughtless wally blow it as the customer is leaving. What a complete waste of time and effort. Customer service is something that a lot of people take for granted And it is a sad fact that today, you can stand out from the crowd by giving great customer service. What was the norm has now become that exception Take advantage of that, and your business will grow. I talk about ways to do that in the lawnmowing101 membership. Outstanding customer service will always be a great way to grow your business That will never change. Until next time, get out there, mow lawns, and have fun Stuart |

I once turned down a job because of the contract attached. They sent me through this official-looking document. It had more clauses than a Santa convention. Stuff like: “Client may cancel at any time, without notice or compensation.” “All liability falls on the contractor.” “Work must be completed regardless of the weather.” I read it twice and still didn’t know what I’d be agreeing to. So I politely said, No thanks. Now look, it’s not that I’m against agreements. I think everything has its...
It was all going so well... I had a slow leak in one of my tires. Been topping it up when I could (amazing how many gas station air pumps are broken, by the way). Anyway, time to fix it. I wasn’t going back to my usual place; they botched a job once, and I failed the inspection. So I tried a new spot: World of Tires. Looked good. Bay ready. Nice start. The guy asked if I wanted a new tire or just a repair. I asked, “Will it pass inspection?” I'm booked next week He said, “It’s worn, but yeah...
When someone’s going to build a house, the first thing they do is lay the foundations. If you’re going to build something, that seems essential, doesn’t it? So why should it be any different with a lawn care business? This is where I see a lot of guys get it wrong. They think mowing lawns is all they have to do. But it’s more than just mowing lawns, it’s about running a business. It’s about: • Marketing • Dealing with leads • Scheduling jobs • Tracking debits and credits • Getting paid on...
