The robots are coming...

When robotic mowers first showed up, I took notice.
A few contractors acted like it was the end of the world.

I never worried that much.

It’s not like you could just drop one on a lawn and walk away.

There was a ton of preliminary work, and they weren’t cheap.

Back then, I did wonder if you could build a lawn care business around robotic mowers.

But the price per unit was too high.

Still, the idea stuck with me.

A couple of years later, I started seeing startups like Robin pop up.

They were interesting.

But they still needed someone watching the machines, doing the edging, cleaning up.

Which kind of defeated the point.

Even now, they haven’t quite nailed it.

But they’re getting better.

Some of the newer models use geo-tracking.
Installation’s getting easier.
The price is coming down.

We’re not there yet.

But I’m still watching.

Who knows, maybe one day it’ll hire some out, it would make the perfect retirement plan.

Until next time, get out there, mow lawns and have fun

Most lawn guys leave a bit of money on the table each day — and they don’t even know it. Not because they’re lazy. Not because their pricing is off. But because their daily route is all over the place. If you’re zigzagging across town, backtracking, sitting in traffic, or wasting time chasing payments… That’s not “just part of the job.” That’s downtime, and downtime is expensive. Traveling between jobs? Downtime. Fuel stops? Downtime. Chasing late payments? You guessed it — downtime. It’s the...

One thing I hear a lot when people call for quotes is: “I’ve rung a few people and no one has shown up.” It’s amazing that some businesses put their name out there, spend money on ads… and then drop the ball at the last minute. But you’d be surprised how often this happens. A company has lots of work. They’re busy. Then a call comes in: “Yes, we can look at that. We’ll call in tomorrow.” Sometimes they do. Sometimes they don’t. And this is where you come in. But you’re different. It’s your...

Here is a message I got 7 hours ago"I’m trying to find clients in certain areas and get my own business going as well right this moment. Had a falling out with a family friend that I worked with for almost 5 years."I get this a lotThis is a tip I picked up studying business management: “Before you go into business with someone, ask yourself, would I marry them?” I’m only half-joking when I say that. If the answer is no… You might want to think twice before proceeding. The longer I work with...
