I’ve rung a few people and no one has shown up.

One thing I hear a lot when people call for quotes is:

“I’ve rung a few people and no one has shown up.”

It’s amazing that some businesses put their name out there, spend money on ads… and then drop the ball at the last minute.

But you’d be surprised how often this happens.

A company has lots of work. They’re busy. Then a call comes in:
“Yes, we can look at that. We’ll call in tomorrow.”
Sometimes they do. Sometimes they don’t.

And this is where you come in.

But you’re different.
It’s your business.
You want to grow, fast.

Don’t be like them. Be better.

“Be Johnny on the spot, like a tow truck driver.”

Here’s what I mean:

Most contractors wait to return calls or schedule quotes when they’re already in the area.

But if you’re the one who picks up the phone, shows up fast, and says:
“I can be there in an hour,”
90% of the time, you win the job.

Simple as that.

It’s not about being the cheapest.
It’s not about having a flashy brand.
It’s about speed, service, and showing up.

The customer called because they have a problem.
That’s your golden chance to solve it, fast.

And honestly, that applies way beyond lawn mowing.

How many times have we lost out just because we hesitated?

  • Waited too long to reply.
  • Got distracted before following up.
  • Thought, “I’ll deal with it later,” and never did.

The solution?

Just show up fast.
Be helpful.
Solve the problem.

That’s what people remember.

Do that consistently, and your business will grow much faster — while your competition is left wondering how you’re pulling it off.

Until next time, get out there, mow lawns and have fun

Here is a message I got 7 hours ago"I’m trying to find clients in certain areas and get my own business going as well right this moment. Had a falling out with a family friend that I worked with for almost 5 years."I get this a lotThis is a tip I picked up studying business management: “Before you go into business with someone, ask yourself, would I marry them?” I’m only half-joking when I say that. If the answer is no… You might want to think twice before proceeding. The longer I work with...

There’s a saying in marketing:People need to see your brand seven times before it sticks. And in the lawn care world, most of those “seven times” happen when you’re not even thinking about marketing. Like when you’re out there mowing a lawn in a branded shirt. Your truck might be parked down the street, but they will still know who you are. While you are just mowing the lawn. But someone walking their dog… someone peeking through the window… a curious neighbor glancing over the fence… They...

When you're just starting off, you want to say yes to everything. And honestly, if you've got the gear, you're confident doing the work, and it helps pay the bills? Then go ahead. Take the job. I did the same. In the early days, I was doing a bit of everything. Mowing, hedging, pressure washing, the odd bit of garden cleanup. If someone asked, I said yes. But as time went on, I started to see the cracks. Some jobs were a pain. Some didn’t pay that well. Some required gear I barely used, just...
